Terminal Services issue - Windows 2003

Asked by nazirahmed in Windows 2003 Server

Tags: windows 2003 server, terminal services

Hello,

I am having issues with a windows 2003 virtual server image. I built a windows 2003 std virtual machine within Xenserve. Installed updates and enable terminal server, installed few apps like office etc. Created a local user account, tested it with test user account and admin user account, all works fine when i make terminall services session from another machine. After that, i ran sysprep and converted it to a template. When i deploy a new VM using the template, the sysprep part prompts me for a computer name and local admin password, rest of the things are automated, which includes joining to a domain.

Everything goes fine but i cant connect to the server anymore.

Checked event viewer and found that system was giving errors for 2 of the DLLs.

C:\windows\system32\wsxica.dll
and
C:\windows\system32\ctxrdpwsx.dll

and one sys file
C:\windows\system32\drivers\wdica.sys

I thought I will copy these files and it should work after registering the DLLs. I copied them from another 2003 server machine but I could not register the DLLs as the system could not find registry entries.

In services msc, Terminal services service is shown as running but it cant be stopped or restarted which suggest its not actually working.

Even if i dont use a sysprep INI file and answer all the questions during the sysprep wizard on a new VM, it still doesnt work. Which suggest its not the INI file but the Sysprep process it self which is not liking the existance of Terminal services on the server. I think I am doing something wrong while syspreping the machine while it has terminal services enabled on it. Could someone shed some light and help me out of this misery?

Many thanks in advance.

Regards

Naz
