DHCP on Windows Server 2003 not Working

I am configuring a new Domain on a fresh Windows Server 2003 and after adding the default Server Roles (DHCP, DNS, Printer) and confirming the scope options I still cant have any clients get an IP at all.

Help!

Please restart the DHCP service.
Can you check the IP range that you want to lease to your clients?

Have you Authorised the server?
In DHCP Managerment console right click on the server name and select Authorize

Have you also run the following on the clients:

ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Yes Server is listed in Authorized DHCP Servers and yes I have done a release/renew on clients.

Is there any special config for Scope Options or anything on NIC that I need to do?

No, you need to activate each scope (right click and select activate)

did you activate the DHCP scope after authorizing the DHCP server in active directory
and also check the firewall on DC

Awesome - so I have just noticed that I need to open up ports on firewall with exceptions - which port numbers are recommended/required?

Would there be any reason hwy a client does not get Default Gateway with IP?

You may want to check if DHCP is broadcasting by using Wireshark.

the default gateway is specified in the scope options.

UDP port 67-68.

UDP ports 68 and 67 are required for DHCP to function.

So I am good with Firewall Ports now, but not sure on which Scope Option - I assumed it would be '003 Router' which I have.

You want to set:

03 Router - This is the gateway address
06 DNS Servers - This is your DNS Servers IP addresses
015 Domain Name - this is the primary DNS Suffix (yourdomain.local)

Server & Scope Options:
003 Router 10.1.1.1
006 DNS Servers 10.1.1.10
015 DNS Domain Name <domain>.local

I have restarted DHCP and also release/renew and no go on Default Gateway ..... :-(

Remove the entries in the server options and only have them set in the scope.

Silly question.....but....are you clients set to "get IP address automatically"?

It appears that the client I was testing on just needed to be rebooted ....... thank you all for your patience on this one!
