MSExchangeTransport, SMTP Protocol , 7004

Win 2003 std, exchange 2003 std, I get these events all day log.  Is there a fix to resolve this issue?

This is an SMTP protocol error log for virtual server ID 1, connection #20. The remote host "xxx.xxx.xx.xxx", responded to the SMTP command "rcpt" with "550 Mailbox unavailable or access denied - <xxx.xx@xx.com> ". The full command sent was "RCPT TO:<xx.xx@xx.com> ". This will probably cause the connection to fail.

Hello TG-TIS,

Your server is probably open to relay message from external domain/user.

ok, I registered as a user and ran the test and where are the results:

Mail relay testing
Connecting to 75.xx.xx.xx for registered user test ...

Relay test result
Could not connect, test failed.

Does this mean the entire test failed and it wasn't able to determine if I'm running an open relay?

Not really... Are you sure you put the right domain name ?
Seems the service is unable to connect to your SMTP server...

I reran the test with the 2nd IP we have and received

Host rejected connection

Now what?

We have a different type of setup. We belong to an association that hosts our website. Our windows 2003 server & exchage has public IP's: .185 and .186

We have MX records that forward email to Katharion.com who is an anti spam service. They send clean mail to our exchange server. We only accept connections from the Katharion network. This filterling is added into exchange which is probably why the connection was rejected.

What next?

Assuming what you say, Katharion network don't have the full list of your mailbox and try to transfer to your server false positive email.

After checking the configuration, additional work not mentioned here will be needed to resolve the issue.
