Some member servers and xp clients cannot access \\domainname\sysvol but can access \\dcservername\sysvol

We are getting event erros 1030 and 1058 Userenv - " Windows cannot query for the list of Group Policy objects errors on two member servers and some XP clients.  They cannot access \\domainname\sysvol but can access \\dcservername\sysvol.  Other servers and clients are not having this problems.  I am able to check and edit gpo objects, but cannot resolve this error.  Any help would be appreciated.

Are these servers in their own OU where this policy applies??

Check the domain servers for event log warnings in the FRS events that are in the 13000's

I am out of the office until Thrusday morning, but we are getting FRS replication errors.  One of our Domain Controllers is offline.  I will review the event logs and post them in the morning.

The Domain Controller that is off-line is not damaged, but has been offline for a few weeks due to a project.  I was hoping to bring the server back online and get the replication working again.  It is still within the tombstone period so I think is should work.  Once replication starts working, the FRS erros should clear up.  If not then I will follow your suggestion to perform a metadata cleanup.

You are correct in all of your thinking.

group policies are saved in sysvol, then FRS replicates these to other domain servers. Then, they are distributed out using Netbios broadcast as the transport and MUPcache as the UNC provider list.

Your problem is you have a partial data set in sysvol. Once you bring your DC back on line, force replicate and that should clear up your 1030 and 1058 IDs as well as your FRS events. If you don't do this by the tombstone lifetime, you will have to perform a FRS&DNS&AD metadata cleanup. Then, see if you can fix your FRS events on other servers by force replication.
