I will try that now. Were you able to boot in safe mode with networking?

Browse All TopicsMy server will not get past the applying computer settings screen. It is the primary domain controller. I can boot into safe mode but not safe mode with networking. I have read many articles about APC powerchute causing this issue but I do not have that installed. Any thoughts? Im desperate.

So, I assume it is also an Active directory server.
Let's verify that we don't have a DNS discrepancy. Logon to safe mode and make sure its NIC configuration>>DNS tab has its own IP as the preferred DNS server. Use another one of your servers as the secondary DNS server.
Then, Let's go to device manager to see if we have a nic driver conflict. When in device manager, go to "View" and select "show hidden devices". See if there are any yellow exclamation points on any of the drivers.
Remember, this is a server. So, it will make contact with computers in the domain, all shares for the domain, and all printers in the domain prior to getting past "applying network settings". This means it can take a considerably longer amount of time to boot up.

Hello,
had the same problem with a Small Business Server 2003.
I booted in safe mode an under Services i disabled all services that are not realy needed from System.
THen i enabled onye by one and figured out witsch service makes trouble.
With Exchange Services disabled my server booted again, the problem was a corrupt exchange database.
Maybe it helps you out.
