DFS - replicate folder with pre-existing data

We're opening a new remote office, and I'd like to use DFS to replicate a data folder. The folder is around 60GB of data, and to replicate over a VPN would take forever. So I'm sending them a drive with the data on it to copy over. Now my dilemma is, I've been trying to do some tests setting up the DFS to see if it would re-copy, or over write the data, instead of merging it. I've been unsuccessful. I've tried setting the BurFlags command in the registry using the article found here https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/22762519/DFS-and-PreExisting-Data-how-to-I-merge-them.html and here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290762, and that's been unsuccessful for me as well. I'd appreciate any advice, thank you.
