Windows server 2003 terminal users unable to view png images in IE

Greetings experts!

I have encountered the following problem with a 2003 R2 SP2 Terminal Server:
The clients using the terminal server, are no longer able to view png images in Internet Explorer (IE8).

The only user who do not have this problem is one user associated with the Administrators security group in AD, as of current.

I have compared Tools -> Advanced Tab settings with the user who can see the images on IE and it matches. I also checked View, Auto Select, and Encoding, and made sure view images is ticked under the Multimedia settings. Still I only get the red X for png's. I also deleted temp files and cookies, cleared cache and browser history a couple of times.

I followed the steps as described here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/283807
This did not resolve the issue.

I also tried the png-fix, found here, http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/202/1/PNG-images-are-not-displayed-on-Web-sites-in-Internet-Explorer.html , suggested from a couple of threads here on EE and google, still no success.

I might mention that the server have been restarted several times as well, after reg changes ect.

Aside from granting all users admin rights to the terminal server (which is not an option) then I am fairly short on ideas now.

Any suggestions and help at this point will be greatly appreciated!

ps. as this is my first question here, please forgive any lack of detail, or if the quesion does not meet the standards of EE. =)

have you seen these?
http://www.libpng.org/pub/png/pngfaq.html

look near the bottom for "Internet Explorer doesn't display PNG images"

one of the more promising fixes is:
regsvr32 c:\windows\system32\pngfilt.dll

another is, save a png file somewhere and right-click it, open with, choose program, and pick your png program, or mspaint, checkmark at the bottom to always use this program.  by default, quicktime will take over every image/video format on your machine and screw it all up.
(this is a per-user kind of thing)

Thanks a lot for a swift response!

Unfortuantely, this have not solved my problem either.

Regsrv32 returns entry point error (please see attachment)
I created a png image, and tried opening it with several different user accounts. All of them are able to open the pic with the normal windows previewer.

Furthermore, I have no secondary image/video software installed on the server, and I did check file associations as well just to be sure.

Still unable to view png images in IE8.

hmm.  i'll dig deeper today and get back to you this afternoon

Highly appreciated =)
Today, I managed to get some info from our client, and it seems the only change that has been made to the server, is an recently installed Active-X plugin update, needed for their internal salary management software.

As far fetched as that sounds, could that be the course of the problem??

So far I spend most of the day googleing possible solutions, and I haven't found anything new as to what has already been tried. Any suggestions to solutions at this point is greatly appreciated!

thank u ;)
I tried all solutions above (with the exception of the blanket security restore, didn't trust that) I finally found the culprit and fix.

Culprit - Adobe Flash update
