Hi, we're installing a fresh standalone Windows Server 2008 Standard x64 box that we want to use as a seperate domain controller. This domain will be used with Exchange Server 2007. I've got a couple of questions regarding recommended design/structuring/naming of the domain and forest.
1) If our website is "our-website.com", including the hyphen in the name, (which is also the same domain we recieve email at, in addition to a few other internet domains), should we name the Windows AD domain/forest our-website.com, or something else? How/what about domain.local? Does it matter what we name the AD domain? Can it integrate with Exchange to recieve/send mail on email accounts from our internet domain(s) with no problem and no end-user changes? Does using an AD domain name different from our primary internet domain adversely affect/unnecessarily complicate things later on?
2) Is there any way to copy GPOs from a WS 2003 AD box to this one without any problems?
3) What is the standard topology for an AD domain? What are your suggestions for easy management? Maybe a few whitepapers to look at?
