XP PRO wks does not login to domain for a user after reboot

Asked by syllatrex in Windows XP Operating System, Windows 2003 Server

Tags: Microsoft, XP Pro, SP2, Login can see domain as a user

Have a new wks - named SHIPPC  and a new domain user named SHIP1.
Domain is XYZ - server 2003. SHIP1 is a new user created in last week.

SHIP1 cannot login to their xp pro sp 2 wks - invalid user name / password message.
1 - If we login as domain adm and then change wks to workgroup W,
2 -reboot then login as local adm change wks to domain xyz (after specifying domain adm user id/password)
3 - reboot then login as SHIP1 we are okay until we shutdown or  reboot the system.
Then we cannot log into domain xyz again until we perform steps 1-3 again.
I am baffled.
This only happens on this one PC and SHIP1 can login to all other wks at any time
SHIP1 is a new user - added in last week and it seems as if all previous users will work okay even on this one troubled SHIPPC.
