Connecting to Wireless Network in France

Hi,
my friend is in France at the moment and using a Livebox as his internet connection. He can connect to the internet by plugging in the ethernet cable from the livebox into his laptop with no problem. When he tries to connect via wireless it shows the livebox in range with a good signal but when you try and connect it does nothing.
The wireless works fine in the U.K.
Does he need to change something becasue he is now in france? Do they work on a different range?

Is there any missing connection parameter that denies the connection attempt (like encryption key)?

No, there is currently no encryption key on the live box.

Sorry, it just says trying to connect to wireless network then says unable to connect.
I thought it might need a channel changing because its france or should it just connect?

In this case, it's just the AP which signal is not really so good. On sensing it, the wifi card reports is good because they are just a few packets. But on connect/traffic it drops the connection because the AP signal is really low indeed.

Does this happen even if he stays under the AP cell?
