Question

EBS 2008 trying to extend the System Vol Partition

Asked by: stingcctv

So I installed EBS virtually as 3 different VMs, however I noticed on the Management Server I installed the OS to the wrong partition(my bad). I want to be able to add the extra 20gbs on to the System Volume. How can I go about doing this without reinstalling the management server?

If your host is a VMware server, and you used one of the SCSI controllers to configure your drive, you can just shutdown EBS, then use the VMware server Webconsole and increase the size of your drive, and when you boot back into EBS, you can use diskmanagement to extend C:. With other Virtualization products I'm not sure how this would be done, and I'm also not completely sure what you mean with you installed EBS to the wrong partition. Maybe you need to give some more detail on your actual setup?

I'm using Hyper V, I had two partitions to chose from when installing the EBS Management server. A 60 gig and 40 gig partition, all off the same VHD(100gb). I chose the 40 gb partition when what I planned on was the 60 gb.

With Hyper-V I don't know if and how you can change virtual Disk sizes. What you could do is use an imaging utility to image your system partition, then delete the 40GB partition from your Hyper-V system, create a new 60 GB partition and restore the image to that. You could do the same for the other partition and create a new smaller partition. A tool that should work is bootit-ng (the free trial works fine).

I already shrunk the 60gb partition down to 40 gigs so i have the free 20 waiting to get transplanted to the C: partition(40gb currently).
