Browse All TopicsI have been toying around with a new Hyper-V server in my test environment. My goal is to convert several physical servers to the new virtual environment. My issue is I can't seem to figure out how to convert them. I have ghost and have used it to convert physical servers into VMWare successfully, but when I boot a VM in Hyper-V with a ghost bootdisk I get an error "Boot Disk Failure".
Is there a way to use ghost in a P2V migration to Hyper-V?
What other software could I use that is available now for a P2V migration to Hyper-V?
Thanks in advance,
Mas

Hi, I am having smashing success by ghosting (Ghost 2003) the physical server to image files. Then starting up an XP or 2003 Virtual Server 2005 instance, copying the image files (gho/ghs) to an "E" drive. Then booting ghost in the VS 2005 and ghosting the C drive as disk-from-image. BUT I never try and start the ghosted image in VS 2005. I copy the VHD to Hyper-V and start it there! It just works!!!! :-)

Here's a technet thread was several good links on MS's System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) - it's the officially supported method to do P2V in Hyper-V. SCVMM will also allow you to manage your VMWare servers too.
