Hyper-V & Named Pipe

I have Win 2008 Server running Hyper-V.  I created a Windows XP SP1 virtual machine to config some old switches.  The software for these switches will not run on anything by 98, 2000 & XP.  Unfortunately they are programmed via a serial port connection.  Is there a way to connect a serial cable to (ex) port1 of the Parent Machine and use the 'Named Pipe' functionality of Hyper-V to give the Virtual Machine access to the serial port?

i have read somewhere that the pipes thing won't work to connect to COM1

you may have to 3rd party utility like:
