I am using the free version of sharepoint, WSS 3.0
I would like to add a web part to the sharepoint default home page that shows the users the list of sites they have access to.
This would be the equivalent of clicking 'view all site content' > then narrowing it down to 'sites and workspaces'

There is nothing out of the box that does this, but the following product does all that you need including maintaining security so only the lists you have permissions on are viewable:
