Auto-Increment Numbers in Sharepoint Column

Please Im looking for step by step instructions how to create an AUTO-INCREMENTING number field in Sharepoint (same autoincrement feature in SQL Server).  
I also need the same instructions for auto-incrementing starting with a custom number ID of "200700001".
