is it possible to edit the "connect to Outlook" feature?

Is it possible to edit the "connect to outlook" feature in a contact web part to exclude contacts that have retired?  All of my contacts are linked to my "Jobs List" which links customers to job numbers.  Over the years, many of the contacts have retired or changed jobs.  If I delete the retired contacts, I will erase historical data.  If I sync to outlook I will have contact data for employees that are no longer with the respective customer.
I have included a yes/no column in the contact list that will allow me to filter out the retired contacts.  But when I use the "connect to Outlook" feature to import the contact information to my email and my cell phone I still get all of the contacts.  Is there a way to fix the "Connect to Outlook" feature so that it will exclude the records that contain a "yes" in the retired contacts field?
