Sharepoint search results: document icon is not displayed

Sporadically when searching in SharePoint, the doc type icon does not display on the search results page as the attached image...I can't see to determine any reason for this to happen...it seems to come an go...any suggestions what may cause this?

(We have MOSS farm with 2 x Web Front End servers, Index server and App server for central admin)Start Free Trial
