The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Moving Sharepoint 2007 Databases

Asked by killbrad in MOSS-Sharepoint, MS SQL Server

Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated.  Here are the steps I went through:

Backed up content and config databases.
Removed the Web Applications in the Sharepoint Admin site (leaving the content databases).
Reran the Sharepoint Technologies Configuration Wizard.    Here is where things started not performing as expected.  Previously when I have done this, it would give the option to disconnect from the farm, but this time it acted as if it was repairing the installation, and gave me no options at all.

I restored a snapshot, and began again, doing the same thing, but leaving the Web Applications in tact after the backup of the SQL databases.  Same effect with the configuration wizard.

Restored again, and attempted to use the built in 'Backup' and 'Restore' functionality.  This seems like it would have worked, but when restoring the backup, and selecting the new SQL server name, it was unable to connect, and never prompted me for the password.  If I reattached the databases on the new server, and ran the restore again, it seemed to get farther, but was trying to pass the DOMAIN\COMPUTERNAME$ as the credentials, and I am not aware of a way to grant permissions to a SQL database to a machine account.  So ultimately, this failed as well.

Restored one last time, and physically moved the databases over in SQL.  This worked fine, as expected.  I removed and re-added the content databases fine using stsadm, and removed the config database fine, but when I tried to read the config database using stsadm -o setconfigdb, it gave back an 'Access Denied' error every time.  This didn't appear to be a password issue, as when I used the wrong password or user account for any field, it immediately failed with and error such as 'invalid user or password'.

If you have any suggestions or can point me in the right direction, I would truly appreciate it.
