Adobe Acrobat Can Open PDFs from Sharepoint but CANNOT Save to Sharepoint - directory looks empty

Talk about random. I have a user complaining that they use Adobe Acrobat 5.0 to work with PDF files on Sharepoint and that they cannot save to Sharepoint.

Opening the document library in Explorer View adds it to Network Places. You can then browse this via the My Network Places link when browsing for a file. For some reason when "Opening" a file, I can browse to Sharepoint and select whatever I want. It does not work when saving a PDF though, when I browse to the location everything looks empty.

What could be causing Adobe to allow me to open files but not save them? This severely limits our usability of Sharepoint if we cannot save PDF's to it like any other document. I have tried saving a copy of the PDF using the newest Adobe Reader and the same symptoms - you can open files but when trying to save all the directories look empty.

I downloaded the Adobe Acrobat 9 trial and it doesn't have the ability to save to sharepoint either. Same symptoms - it looks empty.
Okay I found the Swiftwriter plugin for it that is supposed to work with Sharepoint. I get this error when attempting to use it.

I'm not familiar with Swiftwriter plugin, so I won't be able to recommend a solution... have you tried the author?
Yes. Do you have personal experience with Macroview? I just don't want to buy that one and end up with a similar problem.
Sorry, I don't have any experience with any acrobat plugins or for that matter acrobat... I use NitroPDF or FoxIT which don't support WebDav. If I need to save a document to a library I upload it.

I was told by a user that Acrobat 9 supports it: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Acrobat/9.0/Standard/WS5A4EED78-AE87-4e94-902C-59876365C60C.html

Choose how you want to post the PDF and collect comments from reviewers. Choose Automatically Download & Track Comments With Acrobat.com if you want to use Acrobat.com to share the review. Choose Automatically Collect Comments On My Own Internal Server to use a network server, a WebDAV server, or a SharePoint workspace.

The link you provided is in relation to having some kind of live hosting with Acrobat.com. I was more referring to using Adobe to interact with Sharepoint.
I don't have AA9, so I can't confirm... but I've been told that the user who couldn't save with AA7 could with AA9.
We are just starting to use SharePoint in our HR department and came across the same issue today.  I'm just starting to research this and so far it looks like we are stuck with plug-in's or SP add-ons.  I want free and integrated but I may be out of luck.
I found this link and he confirms no direct save in Adobe 9 either.  Raybies post is about using SharePoint for review commenting which is new.

Link above mentions Swiftwriter plugin for Adobe.  Looks like it adds a "Save to SharePoint" option in the File menu.  If it works it is better than nothing.... when does Adobe 10 come out? :)

Just downloaded and used Swiftwriter.  Don't like it.  In Swift config you specify URL of site and credentials for user account which is OK except our HR people are in several sites.  Browsing results in a page cannot be displayed in the dialog box.  I also tried top level site and can't browse out.
As far as using Swift, it works fine saving PDF TO Doc Library in site specified in config.  However, in my test when I open existing PDF from Doc Library and try to save it back it appears to work OK but after inspecting Doc Library the file remains in checked out state and lost its Doc Properties.  This is what was happening to us in the first place.
If I come across anything else I'll post it here.  I'm watching...
Yeah I've been playing with Swiftwriter too. It apparently cannot work over the HTTPS protocol making it useless to us.
Another Expert mentioned using UNC for Sharepoint allows you to save to it, but for some reason cannot get UNC to work on our Sharepoint.
I know you can map a drive letter to a SharePoint path using NET USE.  I'm trying to get away from drive letters -- one of the benefits of SharePoint IMO.  But until Acrobat is fully SP aware it may be the workaround.  I can't try it now but that may work...
I actually experience the same error attempting to map a drive to a Sharepoint path. Something is up with how our Sharepoint is set up that is preventing this.
It tells me the name already exists on the network and to open computer properties and change the name of my computer. Changing it does nothing.

Odd, I was able to get it to work pretty well using UNC. You're right you cannot update any SP doc properties or check in though and that is annoying.
We just needed to be able to save PDF's to Sharepoint at all, and now we can using the UNC. Full integration would be nice...I wish Adobe + Microsoft would put their patent lawyers away and work together.
