Question

BlackBerry devices accessing SharePoint site remotely (SSL)

Asked by: markymark10

Hi
we are running sharepoint server 2007 (MOSS) and only blackberry users cannot access this server due to a http 400 error.  We are not running Blackberry Enterprise Server.

Also, there is an SSL on the SharePoint server requiring https:// access.

iPhone users and Treo users (windows mobile) do not have this issue.

DO I have to enable Basic authentication  - in addition to Integrated Security - on the SharePoint web site in IIS?  is this a security risk if https:// is being used?

Or do i need to add certificates to the blackberry users devices?  Or both?

thanks in advance

Hi, you will be unable to make the changes in the link above without a BES.    On the device go to Options > Advanced Options > Browser and ensure it is set as Internet Browser and not your carriers WAP browser.  Also ensure the URL your users are entering is correct.

HI Garycutri
I did try that already, but most of the posts i read were about altering the web sites security to include Basic Authentication (now it's set to Integrated Security).

I'm concerned about allowing basic (clear text) over our https: connection, or maybe I shouldn't be concerned because it is https.

thanks
Mark

You can skip trying to use the bb browser, usually does have problems with https, no matter what you do, generally not the best browser.  Your best bet to use https with the bb is to use Opera Mini version 4.2.  Great browser and generally considered the best to use with bb devices.

jdera- i think this is a good solution, e.g., Opera Mini.  I'll download it and test it over the weekend and post the results here early next week.

I downloaded Opera Mini and installed it but now I get this error trying to access our SharePoint site....

"The server requested a login authentication method that is not supported"

We use https://server.com, and I modified the Opera settings to support sockets.

any ideas?

by: jderaPosted on 2009-04-13 at 10:19:12ID: 24131248

Do not modify the Opera Mini browser to support sockets, just keep the network protocol as http. Shut it down and then re-test.
