tedbilly is right, but that can be pretty messy since it's really not live and periodically the system will send updates out and the users have to choose either the new version from the update or to keep their own. When I've tried it in the past the users were constantly stepping on each other.
For data that needs to be updated I would just use a list and if you have any excel calculations that need to be run on it you can link the list to a workbook. Just make sure that all the data is part of the list.

Document workspaces is the only way I know of to do it in Sharepoint.
