Enabling simultaneous editing of an Excel spreadsheet via WSS 3.0

Hi,

I have an excel spreadsheet uploaded as a shared document in WSS 3.0. It needs to be worked on by a number of people, each of which would like to access it at any time rather than waiting for it to be closed.

How can i let multiple users work on an xls simultaneously (as google spreadsheet might)? is 'shared docs' the right place for this?

Document workspaces is the only way I know of to do it in Sharepoint.

tedbilly is right, but that can be pretty messy since it's really not live and periodically the system will send updates out and the users have to choose either the new version from the update or to keep their own.  When I've tried it in the past the users were constantly stepping on each other.

For data that needs to be updated I would just use a list and if you have any excel calculations that need to be run on it you can link the list to a workbook.  Just make sure that all the data is part of the list.
