Question

Sharepoint Web Front Configuration Issue connecting to configuration DB

Asked by: tgatif

I am attempting to create a new web front for an existing sharepoint web farm server.  When I run the Configuration Wizard for SharePoint on the web front it fails at step 2 of 9 to connect to the original Sharepoint Configuration Server stating SecurityException Error: Access Denied.  (See error in code section.)

I have the user 'shareservice' on the original machine and it is setup as an admin and web farm admin.  I also made sure that the user was a DB_Owner of the databases for SharePoint.

I need to know how to solve this configuration issue, please help.

The access denied is coming up on the configuration database. Whatever account you are logged in as and using to do the install/configuration doesn't have access to the configuration database.

Both the user I am logged in with on the new web front server and the shareservice user have db_owner security access in Microsoft SQL.  Both are farm administrators as well.

Still getting the same error SecurityException.

Double check the roles for the users and they have permissions for the configuration database itself. Even though it may look ok, somewhere the security isn't what it needs to be.

I have given full access rights for the users in IIS, SQL Server 2005, Site Farm Admistrators, Site collection Administrators, and Site Permisions - with Full Control directly for the users.

Does anyone know anywhere I may have missed for adding security?

Added user as Domain Admin and this solved the issue.
