Question

Excluding content in search results in Sharepoint

I want to exclude the following location from search results:

http://contoso.com/Pages/ (this location and everything under)

What I did I went to sharedservices > Search Settings > Crawl rules and just excluded http://contoso.com/Pages/

After doing the crawl i can still see http://contoso.com/Pages/somepage.aspx in my search results.

What am I doing wrong?

how to modify search scope:

you'll want to limit by area since you are wanting to exclude a page.

I don't want to modify the search scope. I want to exclude items from the crawl itself so it will not show up in any search results.

have you configured Site Settings - > Search Visibility ?

have you recycled the search service?

In the very first post I included what I did. Let me know if there is anything else I need to do to make it work.

configure Site Settings -> Search Visibility.
Recycle the sharepoint search service (stop and start it)
