Question

SharePoint Central Administration Page cannot be displayed

Asked by: Beeshoring

I am running Server 2003 R2 SP2
Its a virtualised box and is non production. (No snapshot taken)
Initially I noticed a error occuring every 5 minutes:
"""Event ID 2424
The update cannot be started because the content sources cannot be accessed. Fix the errors and try the update again.
Context: Application 'Search', Catalog 'index file on the search server Search"""
A fix that I read was to go into the Central Admin and check the permissions as per an article found here
http://guru-web.blogspot.com/2007/08/wss-30-content-indexing-update-cannot.html
However I get a "Page cannot be displayed" error when selecting "Browse" inside IIS on the "Sharepoint Central Admin v3" folder.
I know the risk of fiddling around inside IIS but any ideas or anything obvious I could try would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

There has been an ongoing problem with Sharepoint caused by a Windows Service Pack that blocks local web services on a Sharepoint server.  Search the web for DisableLoopbackCheck and Sharepoint.  It might fix this.

Thanks Tedbilly
I found the microsoft article
 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861
..I followed the Second scenario, rebooted and no luck.
I cannot bring up the Central Admin page on port 444 and the server is still spewing out :

Event ID 2424
The update cannot be started because the content sources cannot be accessed. Fix the errors and try the update again.
Context: Application 'Search', Catalog 'index file on the search server Search'
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Thanks in advance

Hi Tedbilly
Apologies for the late reply.
Yes I did change the ports trying to make the website use "https" some time ago and that's where it's gone wrong I guess
Now that I'm again inside IIS, I notice that the Sharepoint website gets the same error I select "Browse" but
when I browse to https://servername/default.aspx in my browser, my page comes up. The settings in IIS properties of the  sharepoint website are: TCP port 80 and SSL port 443
Central Admin Site doesnt work from the Browser or shortcut (The actual link that it thinks its on is: https:servername:444)
If I select "Browse" on that "Sharepoint Central Administration V3" folder within IIS,  I get a page cannot be displayed too
The central administration site is using TCP 444. The SSL dialog box is empty
So yes. Abit of a mess really

OK, you can't change anything in IIS without changing 'Alternate Access Mapping' in Sharepoint, otherwise you run into problems like this.  Try to revert all your changes in IIS to the original settings.
