WSS Global Navigation drop down menu solution (top nav + subsites on nav bar)

I have three WSS 3.0 sites.
The only way that I have figured out to add top-nav drop-down functionality was to modify the default.master of every site and subsite created. I open the default.master in SPD, select Navigation bar, Create a new SiteMapDataSource, select Edit Template, select DynamicItem Template from the drop-down, END template edition. Then on the Tag Properties on the left, change the Behavior settings for StaticDisplayLevels to 2, and the MaximumDynamicDisplayLevels to 3 (three levels of subsites to display).

I don't know to, nor am I sure that I won't break the site if I make this change one time for the Global/default.master on the 12 hive on the server.

I would love a solution for this. I am sure there is a best practice solution for this somewhere, but I can't find it. I wouldn't mind using the Infuser Administration tool to deploy a solution if I had one.

It sounds like that you want all your sub sites to use the same navigation as your top site, so why don't you just change the global navigation for your top site and make all your subsites use the same global navigation as their parent site (Site Settings -> Navigation)?
Hi thman,
Just for the information, In MOSS 2007 we have Navigation Option availble, But in WSS 3.0 we don't have ...
I attached a image which show the Site Settings Information page for WSS 3.0
Thanks.
