This issue is happening to 30% of the users. The other 70% are not experencing any issues with their My Sites.
Every time the user opens their My Site the get "An unexpected error has occurred" and I can not open the default.aspx file with SharePoint Designer. I can how ever put in _layouts/viewlsts.aspx and see their document libraries and list.
I have deleted the web application and re-added it with no change. (Same Content database.)
I have restored the database from 5 days back with no change.
I have to keep the same database to retain user data.
Event logs look great.

Have you customized the default.aspx?
When I see these types of errors for some users and not others, it usually comes down to something in their profile that you didn't plan for causing a null error or similar. For example, you may be pulling data for a user and come across someone who doesn't have a phone number, forget to account for the null value, and you get an error.
Can you look at their information in your MySite using the person.aspx? Do the people in this 30% have anything in common (job title, location, etc.)?
