Thanks. I open my browser and see my project manager (I'm an admin). I see "work orders", and see them all. I select Site Actions, edit page, and inside the web part, I choose "edit web part", then modify shared web part and select "active tasks".
"Active tasks" view shows the following items to display- "Title", "Assigned To", "Status" and "Due Date", with a filter of "Show items only when the following is true"=Status is not equal to Competed.
Yet this shows ALL items. :-(

ok so it sounds like the list web part that was originally set to a specific view on your main page was changed. You need to be able to edit the page to fix it.
Go to site actions > edit page, once done go the the web part and choose from the drop down arrow "modify shared web part", once the window opens on the right you should see a label that says current view, i think this is a drop down and you should be able to choose the view from that drop down.
