Browse All TopicsWe have a discussion board in sharepoint. The purpose is to solicit feedback on certain items in a discussion mboard format up to a certain date. Then that thread is considered closed for new comments. But users should be able to comment on other open threads.
Is it possible to make a thread readonly? Can the permissions be changed for a single thread - rather than for the whole discussion board?

Yes you can manage persmissions on the item level and set a "closed" thread to read only. You must have the security to set security (Site Admin) and you must turn off inheritence from the parent site.
Then click on the item you want closed (it may help to place a notification that the item is closed) - manage permissions - remove permission groups (always a good Idea to always leave admin and site owner)
Example
