Configuring incoming e mail on Sharepoint 3 installed on SBS 2003

I am running Sharepoint 3 on an SBS2003 server. I did a parallel upgrade as recomended by MS and everything works really well. Now I am trying to integrate the incoming e-mail feature and I am having a lot of trouble. The instructions provided by MS are clearly incomplete or do not take into account the SBS environment. I followed all instructions and nothing works...in fact exchange stopped sending e-mails, I repaired following the instructions provided in this forum by uninstalling SMTP and rerunning the Internet wizard.
Now I am still stuck with the need to integrate e-mail.
This is very important to our organization, not just a whim...
