What is the common practice for SharePoint host header naming?
Our company is new to SharePoint and we are having some debate as to what to call the host headers for each web application. We plan on using SharePoint for an Intranet and then team sites, project sites, document management and so forth. However, all I ever hear about for host header naming is "Portal, Team, Project."
In the past, our intranet URLs have always been based on the server host name.
I'm trying to find out what the best practice is on this. In my opinion, it should be something simple and generic, but definitive at the same time.
Therefore, for an intranet host header, there has to be a better option than:
portal.mydomain.com
I'm just looking for some examples, I've posed this question elsewhere but didn't get much response.
Thanks.
