Full Farm backup of Sharepoint 3.0
Hello Sir,
I notice that my sharepoint_config log file is quite huge (14GB). Could i use the "Central Administration" to do a full farm backup in order to somewhat reduce the log file as i am running low on disk space.
I'm running Microsoft Sharepoint 3.0 with the built-in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition.
My Sharepoint data path is C:\WINDOWS\SYSMSI\SSEE\MSS QL.2005\MS SQL\Data
Thank you in advance.

Hello Jamie,
Thank you for your reply. I have read the link you provide but i would like you to know also that i am no SQL or DB administrator. I am totally at lost when comes to databases & SQL. Nevertherless i still need to maintain my company server which in my case have Microsoft Sharepoint Services 3.0 installed.
Could you help me how to get into the "Transact-SQL" mode so that i can try to run the commands.
It looks like there are 2 steps involve. First is to do a backup of the log file and second is to shrink the log file itself. Since my log file is approx 14GB, can i set my "targetsize" to 1GB?
Thanks again.

Yeah..that's what i like..mouse click. I've read somewhere that i could download the SQL Server Management Studio to do backup of the database but i have not tried it. Since now that you have enlighten me i shall download and try to shrink the log file.
If you don't mind, could you give me the link to download the free version of SQL Server Management Studio.
Thank you very much & i will keep you posted once i have try out.

for the following reason:
With the help of Jamie i manage to solve the problem. With his inputs i could try out a few things he suggested and in the end problem was resolved though the procedure i went thru may not be in the right order. Just wondering if Sharepoint 3.0 Central Administration Full Farm backup will actually shrink the log file for you.

Hi nacha9817
I'm glad my assistance helped you resolve it. All the things suggested are likely to be of help to other users in future. Maybe you could award some points rather than deleting the question?

Sorry i confused on how to closed the question. I may not be awarding points to Jamie and that's not fair coz with his inputs i solved the problem. If i am correct i need to select "multiple solutions" in order to reward points as i include my comments as solutions too.
Hopefully after i click the "Object" button i could go back and award points to Jamie.
