SharePoint Designer 2010 workflows are not sending external emails
Dears,
I have created a custom work flow with SharePoint designer 2010 against a SharePoint 2010 list.. This workflow send emails to the internal users (like to the users under my company domain) but not sending to the external users like gmail, hotmail, yahoo etc.
So i need to send email to the external domains.
Do I need to do some extra configuration to enable sending external emails in SharePoint 2010 server or in our company exchange server 2010.
Please advice me.

I tried to send email from my company email account (domain) to external emails like hotmail, gmail and yahoo etc by using Outlook then its reached to the external emails. But when i try to send through the SharePoint workflow then it shows the error.
The error log tells:
w3wp.exe (0x1DF0)
0x22A4 SharePoint Foundation
E-Mail
#160009: The e-mail address 'someone@gmail.com' is unknown.

@Shaji , this is purely a smtp relay configuration issue , Please contact your exchange server team and ask them to solve the issue . If they dont know how to solve the issue , do let me know the exchange server version your using i can guide to solve the same.

please verify the Sharepoint uls log. But normally this is an issue in regards to the Exchange server configuration, which is not trusting the Sharepoint server to relay the emails to external domains/servers.
