The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Having an issue with multiple domains on exchange

Hey all;
I'm having an issue with collecting email on multiple domains on exchange.  My client currently is running Windows 2003 Standard Server with Exchange 2003 server collecting mail.  It's behind a router that has a single routable IP address assigned to it.
The client is attempting to collect mail on 3 domains.  Two of the three domains are collecting mail fine.  I manage those two domains.  DNS is configured with an A and MX record sending mail to the clients server and a WWW and FTP pointer to the web-hosting service.  The third domain is non-functional for mail.  I cannot manage DNS on that domain as someone else has it.  When I ping the IP address or FQDN for mail, it returns the correct IP address.  I can send mail off the server using OWA or outlook from within the clients facilities, but when I try to receive at the client there is no mail delivery, and no NDR to the sender.
Exchange is configure with RUP's for all three domains, and as I said the first two are sending and receiving fine.  When I go to MX toolbox and do an MX lookup on the FQDN it returns no information, or an error.  I'm looking for suggestions on what to check next, as I cannot confirm DNS configuration.  Did I miss something on the server?  As I said, I've set up the reciepent policy for all three and addresses are created correctly for the users, but no incoming mail via Outlook or OWA.

Thanks for the help in advance.

I should add that when I ping the domain in question, I do the get IP address to resolve, to the FQDN ping, but get no ping response.  This is not a worry as the firewall onsite is not set to return pings

Update on the issue.  I RDP's to the clients site and set the firewall to allow ping returns.  When I ping the two funtional domains (in terms of receiving email) I get the ping reponses back correctly. When I ping the non-functional FQDN, I do get a resolution to the correct IP, but I get a timeout on the responses.

mail.Hudsonvallyremodelers.com points to 74.14.219.98.
mail.hudsonvalleydisasters.com points to 74.42.219.98
mail.hombuilder1.com 74.42.219.98

Until hundsonvalleyremodelers.com points to 74.42.219.98 you will not recieve mail.

Resolution:
Call the ISP OR who owns this address and have them change the DNS A record for hudsonvalleyremodeleres.com to 74.42.219.98 (As this is what the MX record is point towards).  Give worldwide DNS a little bit to transition over and you should start receiving email.
