The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Internal access to local web server using external URL

Asked by wycliffe1882 in MS Forefront-ISA, Windows 2003 Server

Hi
We have a small number of web-based applications running from our DMZ. When these were first installed we set up local DNS entries to enable quick access to them, i.e. http://app1 using their private IP address. We are now allowing access externally for these apps and they have an external URL of http://app1.domain.co.uk. I have set up a new zone in DNS to reflect our external domain name and added the URL's to it. Both addresses point to the same private IP's of the servers. The problem is that when people access from inside the network, any links to resources are based on the local name (http://app1). This, of course, means that the links do not work outside of the network and the problem is reversed when accessing from outside, URL's don't work inside. The quickest fix for me would be to delete the DNS entries for the local address forcing users to put the full URL in, but I'm being told they still want the quick address to work! Is there a way using ISA 2006 that I can forward http://app1 to http://app1.domain.co.uk? I can ping the site internal-external. The only way I've managed to get a connection via ISA is by bypassing proxy, not very elegant, but it works.

Any comments or suggestions, as ever, much appreciated.
thanks,
