Precautions for deploying LCS / OCS 2007

I just wanted ask some of the pros who've been there and done that, on the hazards/precautions to be taken before we deploy Office Communications Server 2007.

On the system requirements side, MS says that we should have a certificate from a PKI for LCS. Is this mandatory for OCS also? What if I only want it to be used by users within my LAN?

Also, seems like installation brings about some schema changes on my AD. I am using a Single forest single domain structure based upon windows 2003 and exchange 2003 spread across various geographical locations? If the schema change on the DC of one location, where there is the need for OCS deployment, bring about changes at the DCs of other locations too? Can we contain the schema changes only on the DC of that particular location and stop their replication to other sites?

We are looking at a worst case scenario during implmentation and definitely, AD would be backed up prior to installation.
