The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

OCS SQL Archiving server questions

Asked by DFDCH in MS Live Communications Server, SQL Server 2005

Tags: , , ,

I am trying to setup an OCS 2007 Archiving and CDR server and have some questions before going forward.  This is what I have so far.  I have installed OCS Standard Edition, only function we are using it for is IM.  The server is named SERVER1.  I am installing the Archiving server on SERVER1 as well.  We have a SQL server named SERVER14.  I have installed Message Queuing no SERVER1 Here are my questions.
First, do I need to install Message Queuing on SERVER14?  It says I need to install it on an OCS with an archiving and CDR agent that connects to the Archving server and on the OCS that is running the Archiving server.  SERVER1 is both.  Then below that it says you must install message queuing on each server that you want to associate with the Archiving and CDR Server.  Am I reading too much into that thinking that SERVER14 (the SQL server) needs message queuing cause it holds the database?

In the deployment guide it says the following.

"      To activate the Archiving and CDR Server on a server other than the back-end archiving database, you must install SQL-DMO on the computer. To install SQL-DMO, do one of the following:
"      If you are using SQL Server 2000 SP4, you can install SQL-DMO by running SQL Server 2000 Setup and installing the client tools.
"      The Back-End Database server can be running either the 32-bit or 64-bit version of SQL Server 2005 SP1. In either case, you install 32-bit SQL-DMO from the Backwards Compatibility Components package, which is included on the SQL Server 2005 installation CD. You can also download this package from the Microsoft Web site at: http://r.office.microsoft.com/r/rlidOCS?clid=1033&p1=sqlback.

Not sure if I need to do this or not.  Am I correct in thinking the following?  SERVER1, which has OCS SE and OCS Archiving Server installed on it is my front-end server.  SERVER14, the sql server, is my Back-End Database server.  This means I need to install the SQL-DMO on SERVER1 before I activate.

My second question is about steps 7 and 8.
7.      On the Select SQL Server Instance page, type the name of the SQL Server instance that the Archiving and CDR Server will use in the format <servername>\<instance>. For example, sqlserver\dbInstance.
8.      At Enter database name, type the name of the SQL Server database that the Archiving and CDR Server will use (by default, LcsLog), and then click Next.

Step 7...Where do I find the <instance>?  I was talking to a friend who knows a little about SQL and he said an instance is an option when you set up the SQL server.  It doesn't have to be there.  If that's the case, would I just put in SERVER14 with no \ at the end on that page?

Step 8...Do I need to create that database on the SQL server first or will it create it for me?

Thanks for any advice.
