Question

Live Meeting Issue with OCS 2007

Asked by: Netsol-NOS

I have installed OCS 2007 Enterprise edition in a consolidated topolgy. I have single edge server with 3 roles and all have Public routable IPS with Public certificate for SIP and webconf. I have tested SIP connectivity from outside the network its working fine.

1.  I have issue with live meeting when i connect from communicator or direct from live meeting client from internet. It prompt me My User name and Password as sson as i click ok it shows attached error screen. and event id 41059 at my ocspool server occurred.

"Failed to connect external users because the download URL is invalid"

While A/V from outside working fine other than that Live meeting working fine from internal network.

2. I have found the meeting configuration from microsoft article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/938288 and configure it at OCS Ent. server. Now how i have to use this at Meeting client which URL i have to give at client from Inetrnet?

restart the OCS front end server, and create a new meeting, once done you will find 2 links (I connect from external network and I cnnect from internal network) click on the internal network :)

kidding click on the external network.

Once you've defined your externalwebfarmfqdn on the pool the Live Meeting client will get that information through in-band provisioning.

If you want to be able to see meeting content with external clients and external Communicator clients be able to download the address book and expand DLs you'll need a Reverse Proxy to which to point that external URL and create a Web Publishing rule to your Web Components server.

See the OCS 2007 Edge Server deployment guide for more information about Reverse Proxy.

Qaanthony: hope you are doing fine

I have got a lot of information from your below post. It provides the deep information of how Communicator works with DNS and i have solved my Test failure problem of live meeting before this by putting correct DNS record.

http://www.experts-exchange.com/OS/Microsoft_Operating_Systems/Server/MS_Live_Communications_Server/Q_23855809.html

Now i want to know how Live meeting works with Communicator and OCS server so that i can find out the solution of my above problem.
Thanks

The externalwebfarmfqdn is provided to the Live Meeting client through in-band provisioning.  Live Meeting uses the same SRV records for Auto configuration as Communicator.

If Communicator clients can connect from external you should be able to perform a Meet Now externally with Live meeting.  To invite someone you can schedule a meeting via the Microsoft Office Outlook Conferencing Add-in or do a Meet Now and then invite via e-mail which will send them a link in the email that automatically populates the meeting ID, Entry code, and location.  Nothing goes in the URL on the Test connection area either.

If scheduling a meeting via the Outlook Conferencing Add-in you must set meeting permissions to "Invite Anyone" for anonymous users to be able to join the meeting.  Your Forest level meeting policy must also allow users to invite anonymous users.

Regards,

Greg

The problem is that we are using Lotus Notes at client side not Microsoft outlook.
So i can not schedule the live meeting using lotus notes , i have to manually start meeting from communicator "Share information using Live meeting"

Secondly Permissions are ok to anonmyous users and Remote Users.

Web Scheduler is a resource kit tool for Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007. It provides a Web-based alternative to the add-in for the Microsoft Outlook messaging and collaboration client for the purpose of scheduling a meeting using Office Communications Server 2007. It also provides a browser-based conference management experience that includes operations such as:

Scheduling a new Live Meeting conference or conference call. Viewing and modifying details of an existing conference. Listing all existing user schedules of a Microsoft Office conference. Deleting an existing conference. Sending an e-mail invitation to conference participants by using a configured SMTP mail server. Joining an existing conference.

Thanks qaanthony,

I have installed Web Scheduler at my OCS Frond end server and https://Internalfqdn/conf/Int is working fine but the problem is that how can i access https://externalfqdn/conf/ext because i have not configured reverse proxy. Is there any alternate?

by: Netsol-NOSPosted on 2008-12-15 at 01:08:12ID: 23171909

Secondly, When I Create a Meeting and after filling the form as sson as I click on Schedule. The page can not be displayed message on my browser screen appears.

I have configured the Mail server name on conf fille and checked by telnetting the SMTP server from OCS Server.

by: gaanthonyPosted on 2008-12-15 at 17:47:33ID: 23180240

You need to configure a web publishing rule in your firewall or reverse proxy to be able to access the Web Scheduler via the https://externalfqdn. No way around this.

Check the following blog on Configuring Web Scheduler.

by: Netsol-NOSPosted on 2008-12-15 at 21:59:21ID: 23181291

We have already using three Public Routable IPs for whole edge server setup. Actually we have lack of IPs to publish this rule in ISA server. My question is that we need reverse proxy in either case even if we are not deploying web scheduler?

According to my understanding reverse proxy is used for following
"      To enable external users to download meeting content for your meetings.
"      To enable external users to expand distribution groups.
"      To enable remote users to download files from the Address Book Service

As far as i understand from above,  we can share information using live meeting with remote user but we can not download meeting contents etc.

Secondly can you please brief the working of live meeting with remote user, the whole process.

Hi Qaanthony, Hope you are doing fine.

One thing more that i want to come in your kind notice that may help you to find out key point. I have following logs at my Edge Server.

1.  Type: Date: Time: Source: Category: Event Id:
12/16/2008 12:04:37 PM OCS Web Conferencing Edge Server 1023 41993

Failed to process data received from the client

Over the past 0 minutes Office Communications Server has disconnected clients 1 time(s) as a result of invalid data being received on client connections. The last such client which was disconnected is "203.215.180.205:1082".
Cause: Failed to process data received from the client
Resolution:
Check and make sure that the connection came from a trustworthy client.

2.   12/16/2008 10:12:54 AM OCS Web Conferencing Edge Server 1023 42000

 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And following event log at my internal OCS Server.

 12/16/2008 8:06:16 AM OCS Protocol Stack 1001 14502
A significant number of connection failures have occurred with remote server edge.netsolpk.com IP W.X.Y.Z. There have been 70 failures in the last 766 minutes. There have been a total of 70 failures.
The specific failure types and their counts are identified below.

For Web Conference technical information using Live Meeting client you should first read the OCS 2007 Technical Overview and the Live Meeting Deployment Guide and End User references which can be found at http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb676082.aspx where most all OCS documentation can be downloaded.

You are correct in you question regarding need to Reverse Proxy.

For the Event ID Failed to find Web Conferencing Server specified by client check that you have the Web Conference Edge Server properties configured at the Pool Web Conferencing Properties.  Also make sure that your DNS host record entries are correct in internal/external DNS.

by: Netsol-NOSPosted on 2008-12-16 at 19:45:25ID: 23190566

Can you please guide. At my Pool server Web Conference Edge server Properties  there are two options.           1. Internal FQDN              2. External FQDN

My internal FQDN is my internal machine name which is accessable and external FQDN (webcon.netsolpk.com) whose entry is in my external DNS and not accessable from my internal server. Thats why i am receiving below error when i validate my web conference server.

"Internal FQDN: Invalid
Suggested Resolution: The Web Conferencing Edge Server FQDN is empty or invalid. Ensure that the Web Conferencing Edge Server FQDN
is valid and that it does not conflict with the name of the any other Server configured for a non-Web Conferencing Edge Server
role"

Can you confirmed that at External FQDN i have to enter web conference FQDN or whether i have to enter the edge server machine name and how can i properly validate my conference server.

by: Netsol-NOSPosted on 2008-12-17 at 02:59:59ID: 23192136

Can you suggest whether i have to create any SRV records at my internal DNS server.
I have only A record of my internal server and edge server at Internal DNS Server.

And at external DNS server.
1.  A record of my all server roles sip, webconf and A/V
2.  SRV record          _sip._tls.domain.com
3. SRV record           _sipfederationtls._tcp.domain.com

by: gaanthonyPosted on 2008-12-17 at 17:43:01ID: 23200088

At the pool server Web Conference Edge Server Properties you enter the internal and external FQDNs of the Access Edge Server (which also has the web conferencing edge role).

To support Communicator client automatic configuration you need the following;

Internal DNS:

DNS records that you mentioned.

_sipinternaltls._tcp.domain.com with host record in same domain.com pointing Pool IP. You'll need sip.domain.com in the SAN of the pool cert if your sip domain is different from the servers domain.

External DNS:

Host A records as you mentions.

_sip._tls.domain.com pointing to host record in domain.com for your sip domain that points to the IP address the the Access Edge server.

_sipfederationtls._tcp.domain.com only required to support automatic federation with other companies running LCS/OCS.

by: Netsol-NOSPosted on 2008-12-17 at 22:23:29ID: 23201049

Yes, you are right for automatic signIn these records are present.
Instead of all that, I do not know where is the problem, why i can not start live meeting or share information using live meeting. I am too anxious about this problem because my deadline is finished to complete this assignment.

How can i diagnose this problem? I have googled each and every source to find out this. Please help me to resolve this.

Thanks!

Qaanthony,

I have solved my Live meeting issue. There was problem at front end server web conference internal FQDN.
I have one more problem that I can not send/receive file to/from remote user using communicator. I can receive files from internal domain. I have received following error during sending and receiving.

"Cannot send. This may be due to firewall restrictions or network problems. Please try again. If you need further assistance, contact your system administrator."

Please guide me how can i solve this problem.

by: gaanthonyPosted on 2009-01-02 at 18:38:08ID: 23283710

You need the following ports open in the firewall for Communicator File Transfers to/from remote user.

Office Communicator 6891-6901 TCP Port ranged used by Office Communicator for file transfer.

by: Netsol-NOSPosted on 2009-01-02 at 22:26:28ID: 23284204

I you look into my ocs design.

Remote user hit on my edge server because on edge server i have assigned Public IPS for all three roles. And 2nd interface of my edge server is at inside. I mean to say it lies on same Vlan as my front end server. So i dont have any firewall between them. My all other roles of OCS are working properly.
Please suggest.

by: gaanthonyPosted on 2009-01-02 at 23:42:53ID: 23284339

File transfer between Communicator clients is peer to peer only.  The Access Edge server does not provide File Transfer capability between an external user connecting through the Access Edge and an internal user.

Communicator transfer protocol uses the TFTP running over TCP.
The port range used is fixed and can not be changed.
Protocol    Ports
TFTP        6891 6901 (TCP)

by: Netsol-NOSPosted on 2009-01-04 at 21:01:30ID: 23293145

It means any one which implemeted NAT can not send files from outside the domain. Can you please little brief that if u send me file using communicator from remote side and how can i recieve this? and how it will process from my network.

Secondly you meant i have to open above ports at my perimeter network for my front end server
Thanks.

by: peak-cnPosted on 2009-01-29 at 09:14:21ID: 23499828

Check pwconsole log files in %temp%. Answers are in here maybe. In my case I had 2 issues: name resolution and root certificate.

by: gaanthonyPosted on 2009-01-29 at 12:15:04ID: 23501965

Communicator file transfers are peer to peer (Communicator client to Communicator client) so yes you have to open the ports in your firewall if one of the clients is external.  OCS Front End server or Edge Server have no role in file transfers between Communicator clients other than the SIP Control channel.

by: Netsol-NOSPosted on 2009-02-06 at 02:04:54ID: 23568276

Well, Thanks for updating. I have one more concern that if i have to get remote desktop session of remote user machine then remote user initiate live meeting and pass the meeting id or location to inside user after that remote user can share his desktop or any application. Is there any mechanism that it can be managed from inside.

Secondly if internal user start live meeting session from inside with remote user. Isthere any possibilty from this session both parties can share his desktop to each other.
