Question

Communicator 2007 R2 Desktop Sharing

Asked by: M-BOX

Hello, We have a situation where dekstop sharing using MOC clients only works across subnets when a desktop is shared with a local subnet user FIRST, then a connection can be established with another user on alternative subnet. Any ideas?

Hi,

Whaat do you define as users in other subnets?

Do you mean remote users connecting in via the access edge or people on the main network?

People on the main network in other branches

Are there any settings on the connections to the branches to restrict access bassed on ports, or IPs?

It would be worth checking the client trace logs to see if they indicate any issues.

If you need help with the logs let me know.

One thing to note is that desktop sharing is peer to peer, the same as Video, until there is more than 2 participants, so if there are settings stopping branch users starting connections to clients at the HQ there could be issues.

It may be worth checking to see if Video is working as this often causes less issues than desktop sharing and is peer to peer.

Also if two people in a branch office share there desktop does this work?

Hi Adam,
Two people in a branch office can share desktop - no problem.
I just turned on the logging in MOC options, which wasn't switched on.
Should have some more info soon.
Thanks Again,

Can you check your default global meeting policies as well? Make sure it is enabled for Web Conferences, and desktop sharing.

I am having the exact same issue. However it does not always happen. I also tried making both of the users Administrators and it fixed the issue and I thought it was a permissions problem. However it will sometimes work with regular users. I am looking to fix this issue before doing a major rollout.
