The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

RPC over HTTP - LAN works WAN doesn't

Asked by sirus1 in Microsoft Server, Windows 2003 Server

I'm trying to get RPC over HTTP working, but running into problems.  Surprise surprise...

I've got:  1 Win2003 DC as Global Cat server, 1 backup DC running Windows 2000.
1 Exchange 2003 server as the only exchange server.  RPC over HTTP is installed.  Certificated service is installed.

RPC over HTTP works fine on the LAN.  I can verify with 'Outlook.exe /rpcdiag on my Outlook 2003 client.
I can run outlook with my 2nd profile set to RPC, with no issues.  Sending and recieving email works fine.

OWA also works.  I can access OWA both on the LAN and over the internet.
Again - the certificate is homegrown, so it has to be installed on the client, but once that is done OWA sessions work fine.

From my Client PC at home - I can get too, access and, download the Certificate from my mail server, to my home computer.  It installs fine.  (https:\\FQDN.com\certserv)

I cannot get Outlook to connect through RPC over HTTP from home.  I keep getting the error message that it cannot reach my mail server.  "the connection to the Microsoft Exchange Server is unavailable"

rpingc.exe from the client fails with the message:
RPC Binding returned (0x6be). Could not bind using these parameters:
network address = 'servername.domain.com'
endpoint = 251
UUID =

Failed to Bind on ALL Protocols.

Does this sound like a port / firewall issue, or a configuration problem on Exchange?
