The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Migrate Web Server

Tags: Microsoft, ASP.NET, 2003,2005
Experts,
I work in a manufacturing plant.  We are upgrading our web server and database from Windows 2000 to Server 2003.  We need to find the most seamless and effective method of performing this migration.  We have also upgraded the reporting system from 2003 to 2005.
Our current plan is to remove the old server from the AD then assign the new server to have the same IP address as the old server, but assign a new name to the new server.
Our concerns are that it takes 45 minutes to replicate the in the AD.  Our AD is structured as corporate level -> Plant level -> then Department level.  We only have admin rights on the Department level.  So if we try to add the server before the AD has been replicated it will put us into the Plant Level which we do not have rights to.

1.      How do we speed or force the replication?
2.      How do we verify the replication is complete?
3.      What is the most effective way to have the links redirect to the new reporting system.  Both the old and new will reside on the new server.

We have numerous apps all over the plant that point to the server and it is not feasible to modify all of the computers.

I have posted a similar question to migrating an Oracle server so you may be able to solve 2 in one.

Thank You
Dan Hebert
