WSUS split replica configuration for downstream servers

We are in the process of deploying a WSUS infastructure and want to configure the split replica option for downstream WSUS servers. This allows WSUS to report status to the "upstream" WSUS server, but obtain approved updates directly from Microsoft Update (not over the WAN link). While the technet article explains thai it can be done, I can't seem to locate the configuration for this.
