Active Directory, Profile Path and Variables...

Asked by MylesMcNamara in Microsoft Server, Active Directory

Hi All,

I am in the process of provisioning a branch office for a client. They want to be able to roam seemlessly to this office, with no noticable difference in system usage. This is fine, a replicated dc is in place and a sturdy frame-relay 1mb link back to the headoffice is ample bandwidth.

My issue is with profile path's. I have a data replication process in place that syncronises data down to this server. I altered the profile path for all users to %LOGONSERVER%\Profile$%\etc etc, which would of course in theory reference the local server and return the profile. This appeared to work however I recieved word that a good amount of users (approx 40-50) had profile errors upon logging on this morning... I of course tested at the branch but not at the headoffice after making profile path changes, however I do not see any reason (other than if I spelt the path wrong) of it not working.

My question is, can I effectively use variables in the user profile path?
