The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Upgrading to Windows 2003 AD. AD Install wizard says i need to adprep, but i already have

Asked by msidnam in Microsoft Server, Windows 2003 Server, Active Directory

We are trying to upgrade our Win 2000 AD to Win 2003. We tested the upgrade in a virtual environment and eveything went pretty smooth. When we tried it tonight in our live environment during the Windows 2003 AD wizard setup I got this error:

The operation failed because:

The Active Directory Installation Wizard cannot continue because the forest is not prepared for installing Windows Server 2003. Use the Adprep command-line tool to prepare both the forest and the domain. For more information about using the Adprep, see Active Directory Help.

"The version of the Active Directory schema of the source forest is not compatible with the version of Active Directory on this computer."

When i run adprep /forestprep and /domainprep it says that it's already been done (which i did a while ago when i installed Exchange 2003). I also checked and i dont have the mangled LDAPDisplayName attributes. the only difference that i can think of between the virutal and live environment is that i did one last windows update to make sure i had all the critical updates installed. Not sure if that would have done anything. I dont see anything in the event viewer logs.Start Free Trial
