VHD virus scanning

In order to do virus scanning on a suspect drive you can attach it as a slave to a system drive and then do a scan on it.  Is there any way to replicate this with Server 2008/Virtual PC VHD's - e.g. virus scan a VHD that is just a VHD file?

Yes, it's a good article but I don't see how it answered my question. I want to virus scan a VHD just as if it was a real drive and have the virus scanner report back which files if any inside the VHD are suspect.  I didn't see that covered in the article.
Still answering?

So just to be sure I understand correctly if I have a system with folders and in those folders are Word files, exe's, dll's, etc , the usual stuff you find on a computer, they would be scanned to see if they have a virus. If however I have a file that I have stored on there along with the other files that is a VHD with or without  the VHD extension it won't be scanned?
VHD is scanned like other files. No as a special file containing other files inside (i.e. zip files are scanned that way). If your AV can detect virus signatures inside VHD - it can raport an issue. But you should not rely on it. Currently available AV software doesn't scan VHDs.
