Cannot Remove Orphaned Domain

Due to a failure of a DC server I have been left with an Orphaned Sub domain.   I am trying to replace the server but I cannot be no matter how hard I tried to remove the old sub domain via Sites and Services it would not let me.

Therefore I run though tons of articles like http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc738713%28WS.10%29.aspx.  This has now removed the domain from Sites and Services, though I had to manually remove it from DNS.

However, what ever I do I cannot join my new server it still reckons the domain exists.  When I hunt round the server the only place I can find the old Sub Domain is in Domains and Trusts, but I cannot work out how to remove it from here.

I know I have missed something stupid but I honestly don't know what, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks for the quick post.

I got down to point 11 but the failed server is not listed.  Therefore I skipped this step and ran "remove select domain" instead.  This message than reports back:

DsRemoveDsDomainW error 0x2015(The directory service can perform the requested operation only on a leaf object.)

At this point I am very confused.

Thanks Guys, I have literally just found the resolution myself, but Jai hit the nail on the head with:

http://windowsitpro.com/windows-server/q-how-can-i-avoid-receiving-0x2015-error-when-i-use-ntdsutil-delete-nonexistent-domai

Even though the domain seemed to be gone there were two entries in the Naming Context for the old domain that needed removing.

I kept finding MS article 887424 but this relates to 2003 and the command "Domain Management" doesn't seem to work in 2008.

I am going to share the points as both of the answers were correct but Jai's answer was post on the issue I was experiencing.
