Question

RDP Users get "Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected. Please try connecting to the remote computer again."

Asked by: pchgroup

Have issues at multiple remote iPSec sites using Remote Desktop.  Users are able to log in for a random amount of time before getting disconnected.  The message is;

"Because of a protocol error, this session will be disconnected.  Please try connecting to the remote computer again".

Previous to this, they were getting
"Because of an error in data encryption, this session will end ".

Changes recently include installing SP2 on the Terminal Server (Windows 2003 R2) as well as IE7.  Server is fully patched.

We have uninstalled the TS Licensing server from this box and reinstalled and added the licenses.  Also have done the following.

Thanks in advance

3389.  Firewall is turned off on all clients.

How can I change all the workstations to point to 3390?

by: supportsPosted on 2008-01-10 at 18:41:16ID: 20633683

thats the default port .. u client would direct to that port automatically... check RRAS on server and in u have a firewall on server.. check the configuration on that too

I also note that none of the licenses that I've reinstalled on the server have been used.  Only the two Temporary Licenses.

Hi
I had this same problem but it's solved now.
It has to do with the Visual Style you use on the Remote Computer.
Switch back to Luna or Windows Classic and i'm sure it will work again :)

I'm having the same problem - How do you switch the visual style and on what computer? The server or the pc you are trying to connect with?

by: bagheraPosted on 2009-01-30 at 00:27:37ID: 23506144

The "Visual Style" is the Theme.
Change it on the Remote Computer (the one you are connecting to).
Rightclick the Desktop - Properties - Themes (default)
and then change from the DropDown
