The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How do I (or Can I) move the Terminal Server Licensing from one machine to another (as I'm retiring one machine)

Asked by LappiMA in Remote Desktop/Terminal Services, Windows 2003 Server

G'Day all,

I currently have in place a Windows 2003 Standard Edition box which is a DC (holds only the PDC emulator role), Exchange 2003 Standard, is a GC, and file server.   This box also has the Terminal Server Licensing Manager for my network on it (and I have one terminal server).

This machine goes out of warranty very soon and I am in the process of replacing it (have other domain controllers I've put in, moving FSMO roles there, have other machines handling DNS, DHCP, printers and bringing in separate boxes for the file server part and the exchange server part now that company size has made each have a high enough load that separate boxes are needed).

Minus Exchange which requires a whole separate transition plan to new hardware (and going to exchange 2007) the TS Licensing Manager service is the one major service which I am having a very rough time figuring out how to move from one box to another.   Is there a simple way to do this?    I am inheriting this network (I'm approaching 2 years but still, about 75% at this point is as it was when I got here but that is quickly changing) and one thing that they did was just setup stuff and keep no records SO in the TS manager I can see that we have purchased a 35 CAL pack somewhere along the lines and I've managed to account for all of our licensing EXCEPT this one pack of CALs which of course is the biggest one we have.  If I was short a 5 cal pack, I could afford to rebuy those and just deal with the licensing desk and convince htem to let me reauthorize all the licenses but right now I am at a loss otherwise.

Any thoughts / suggestions / Guidance?
