Remote Desktop through firewall to Windows Server 2003

I have Win2k3 R2 server on my local network. From my (vista and XP) machines on the same network I can use Remote Desktop Connection perfectly.
I now need to let one of my colleagues access the server from home. I have opened Terminal Services (ie TCP3389) on the firewall to this server. (Yes I know this is insecure, I'll swap ports and restrict it to his IP address only as soon as we get it working)
My colleague can't gain access from his machine at home. He gets a login prompt but nothing is accepted, the prompt just keeps coming back.
