The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Logon/Logoff errors related to roaming profiles - source: Userenv, eventID: 1504 and 1509

I have a happy/healthy Windows 2003 terminal server farm that many users log into without problems. I use Roaming Profiles - the profiles live on a file server that is not a Terminal Server. Two users have a reoccuring problem when logging in or out (sometimes in, sometimes out). They get a message indicating that their profile can not copy down (or up) a particular file - usrclass.dat or usrclass.dat.log - because of network problems or insufficient security rights, and that the file is being used by another process. This is a very common problem described in many forums. Here is what I've tried/discovered:
- It's the System process that is using the file (Process Monitor).
- Rebooting the server solves the problem, but a few days later it returns.
- I have User Profile Hive Cleanup 1.6d (the latest, I belive) installed and working fine.
- I have tried other utilities like Unlocker, but they can't unlock the file.
