The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Problem displaying chinese characters

Asked by ipendlebury in Remote Desktop/Terminal Services, Windows 2003 Server

Tags: , ,

I'm sorry but this is going to be complicated....

We have a 2003 Terminal Server in Hong Kong. Clients access this server both from China and from the UK. Amongst other things, we have a MS Access database on there which is linked to a SQL Server back end in the UK. Until Tuesday this week, everything was OK. Some chinese guys installed an Accounts Package called Sage Accpac. Since then, the clients who log into this server from China cannot see chinese characters in the Access Database. However, please note the following...

1. If I log into the Terminal Server from the UK using the same credentials as one of the people in China, I can display chinese characters in the Access database without a problem.

2. The people in China can view other applications on this server and see Chinese characters without a problem.

3. The people in China can log into our UK Terminal server and see chinese characters in the MS Access database without a problem.

So to summarise, the problem only occurs when people log into the Hong Kong server from China and run the Access database. Unfortunately this is what they need to do more than anything else. I've heard of the Great Firewall of China causing various problems, but I can't imagine how it could cause this. Neither can I imagine how the installation of the Sage Accpac program could upset the server to selectively suppress the printing of chinese characters.

Can anyone suggest how I can fix this?
